Who We Are

We are a Sussex based independent publishing company. Our ethos is simple; to showcase writing and illustrating talent from local Sussex people and to publish books that are of interest to Sussex residents and visitors.

This company was set up by Katie Ramsay in 2010. Struggling to find a job post travelling, Katie decided to tackle the recession head on and set up her own company. Fully aware that many aspiring artists and writers struggle ot get their work out there she decided to use her home county of Sussex as a platform for showcasing local talent.

The Eco Guide to Sussex is the first publication from Pegasaurus Publishing. It was thought up after a brain storming session in which Katie tried to consider what was missing from Sussex bookshelves and what genre of publication would be interesting to locals.

'The Eco Guide to Sussex explores climate change in a local context; demonstrating the risks that climate change imposes on Sussex specifically. More than just an explanation of climate change the book provides Sussex residents and visitors with the knowledge and know how to make steps to reduce their impact on the environment, whilst showcasing local individuals and businesses that already do their bit. Examining a number of key themes including: biodiversity, inside, outside, shopping, leisure, transport, alternative fuels, beauty and children and the environment; this book is hands on, informative and fun.'

The Eco Guide to Sussex and Katie Ramsay

We are all aware how climate change affects the world but there is less media emphasis regarding the effects of this climate change on the UK and more specifically on Sussex.

Based along the south east coast Sussex is at risk of water shortage and rising sea levels. Sussex landmarks are at risk of flooding and we are subject to increased temperature.

More than just an explanation of climate change this book demonstrates how Sussex residents, people like you and me, can take small steps to change our lifestyles and to help combat climate change. From making alterations to our homes to growing our own food. regardless of the amount of space we have This book advises you how and where to shop for local produce and offers some seasonal recipes to try at home.

For Sussex residents and visitors to our beautiful county there are chapters looking at leisure and lifestyle discussing shopping and cosmetics and chapters examining the concepts of a ‘staycation’ and a green wedding. This book demonstrates that in all areas of our lives we can make small changes to live a more environmentally friendly life and often save money at the same time.

Furthermore through looking at case studies from individuals and organisations based in Sussex this book showcases the people that are already doing thir bit for the environment and provides us all with inspiration to follow suite.

A Sussex Poetry Anthology

By Various Contributors, published by Pegasaurus Publishing. RRP £8.99

A Sussex Poetry Anthology is a collection of poems written by eleven local poets who have been inspired by Sussex. From ‘Another Brighton Day’ by John Shepherd- Jones and ‘Brighton’s Song’ by Rosemary Graham, both reflecting a diverse and charming coastal city, to poetry inspired by the stunning village of Alfriston and the surrounding countryside.

There is no better way to celebrate Sussex than by publishing an anthology of poems that truly reflect and honour the county’s beauty, diversity and culture.

This anthology is not just a collaboration of poems inspired by Sussex, but it is also showcasing the talent of local poets and illustrators.

‘Inspiring...’

‘A fantastic selection of poems that all Sussex residents will be able to identify with..’

Wanted: Aspiring writers, poets and illustrators!

SUSSEX POETRY ANTHOLOGY:

We are looking for poetry inspired by Sussex for our volume 2. This can be interpreted in any way. It really is a very simple brief. I envisage poems about the scenery, seaside, places, events, the people, specific towns/cities, seagulls and so on. Short on long any contribution is appreciated. We are looking for poets to contribute between 1 - 3 poems and a short biography about yourself along with some brief info about the inspiration behind your poems.

I am happy to showcase many different styles of poetry, my only condition is that the poems are in someway reflective of or inspired by the county of Sussex.
Due for publication Mid 2011.

A - Z HISTORY OF SUSSEX:

The A-Z History of Sussex is a brief historical guide to Sussex aimed at residents interested in local history and visitors to Sussex. The book will go through the alphabet looking at some of the many villages, cities and towns in Sussex.

Contributions need to examine key things to look out for in areas of Sussex. They need to be accurate, descriptive and interesting. For example in Brighton the chapter would look at Brighton’s history as a small fishing village and how it developed into the busy tourist city that it has become today. In many areas of Sussex we have castles, monuments and roman villas demonstrating the rich and diverse history of the county.

If you live locally and you identify strongly with a particular area then we want to hear from you. Are you fascinated by the history of East Sussex with its web of smuggler’s tunnels or the battle of 1066? Are you interested in the Roman invasions of Sussex or the history of industry in Sussex.
This book will demonstrate the rich and varied history of Sussex. It will not attempt to present a full history of the whole of Sussex but instead look at history in terms of an A-Z of Sussex from the perspective of local historians in Sussex and local residents. If it interests you, then it interests us.
It will be more of a snapshot history of Sussex with articles being between 1000 - 3000 words long. Contributions can present an overview of a particular area or village in Sussex or can look in more depth at a particular historic event or building in Sussex.

Due for publication Summer 2011.

Poems can be any length but need to be inspired by Sussex.

Illustrations need to be black and white and inspired by Sussex.

This is a broad brief and can be interpreted in any way as long as the student can demonstrate that their entry has been influenced by Sussex. For example students can write about their local area, events in Sussex, life in Sussex, people of Sussex and so on.

This competition is open to students form secondary schools in Sussex aged between 11-16.
The best entries will be put together in a book due for publication before Christmas 2010.
